Stepping along the white sand dunes to the north of Nam O peninsula, there is a grand relic surrounded by low walls and two lion statues sitting at the entrance. In the middle of the courtyard, there is an incense censer, and an epitaph inscribed with the phrase "Hoa Ổ xã phụng thượng niệm Tiền hiền chi Thần vị” (Hoa O village worship the village God). The name “Hoa O” on the epitaph is the old name of Nam O fishing village. Despite the small area, yet Nam O bears witness to the glorious history of the Dai Viet nation. There, not only do the villagers, but it seems everything has its own story and ready to share its sentiments with visiting guests, who fall in love with this little village.

For hundreds of years, Nam O has been marked by a unique blend of cultures unlike anywhere else: the memoirs of Champa and Dai Viet civilizations, along with the distinctive cultural structures of the fishing villages. Together, they have shaped a rich and profound cultural and spiritual life, filled with diverse beliefs and traditions.

Historical records indicate that in ancient times, Nam O was part of the Champa Kingdom. Around the 14th century, King Che Man offered Chau O and Chau Ly (also known as Chau Ry) to Dai Viet as part of the marriage dowry for Princess Huyen Tran of the Tran dynasty. This land then became the southern gateway of Dai Viet and was named Nam O.

However, according to "Phu Bien Tap Luc" by Le Quy Don, there is another explanation for the village's name. The ancient name that the Vietnamese used to call the village was Hoa Ổ. During the reign of Minh Mang, due to a dispute with Empress Mother, it was changed to Nam Ổ. When the French arrived in the area, being unfamiliar with diacritics, they spelled it as Nam O in their correspondence and documents.

The centuries-old tales passed down through generations of the villagers are alive in the stories of the moss-covered ancestral temple nestled under the lush green trees on the rocky cliffs, and in the bustling scene at the ancestral tomb during fishing seasons, where fishermen gather to seek blessings.

In Danang, perhaps few places compared to Nam O, a region boasting 7 historical sites simultaneously designated as city treasures. That is the fact the Nam O elders proudly tell visitors about: the Nam O’s seven gems.

The Nam O’s seven gems, as the elders call them, encompass historical landmarks and cultural structures deeply intertwined with the spiritual and religious life of the village through generations: Nam O Temple, Ancestral Tomb, Spiritual Temple (commonly known as Dinh Co Hon), Nghia Trung Nam O, Ba Lieu Hanh Temple, Ba Bo Bo Temple and The Well of Great Whale Temple.

Nam O not only preserves the historical legends of Dai Viet nation and the spiritual beliefs of its villagers but also holds within itself the stories of traditional craft villages such as fish sauce making, fireworks crafting, and wooden clog production.

The uniqueness of life and culture in Nam O has served as inspiration. In 1896, during his exploration of Indochina, filmmaker Gabriel Veyre captured the world's first film footage. With the duration less than a minute long, the footage showcased the vibrancy of Nam O's community. It was screened at the Paris Exposition in 1900 under the title "Le Village de Nam O - Panorama pris d'une chaise à porteurs" (Nam O Village - A Panoramic View from a palanquin).

THE RENDEZVOUS OF CRAFTSMEN

In 2010, the ‘craftsmen’ from Trung Thuy Group had the first trip in Nam O during their heritage journey of Hue – Da Nang – Hoi An.

This serendipitous encounter sparked a flame within the ‘craftsmen, who desired to craft a masterpiece of retreat on this very land.

For over a decade entwined with Nam O, the Trung Thuy ‘craftsmen’ had listened to every story, tried to understand the habits, emotions, and pride of the fishing villagers.

Each design was ‘born’ with fervor and enthusiasm, while ensuring attention to detail from the project development and design teams.

The initial sketches of Nam O Heritage gradually took form, refined through dozens of trips to Nam O by these craftsmen over the years, even during stormy seasons.

Nam O Heritage embodies the essence of a unique cultural identity, the tranquility, and the simplicity of life in the fishing village—a testament to the aspiration to create a structure deeply rooted in heritage for the historical region.

INSPIRATION FROM LOCAL CULTURE

The main entrance is designed with inspiration from the ancient Vietnamese village gate, Nam O Heritage will lead visitors on a journey to explore the unique local cultural values through architecture. The journey will take you to the renowned fish sauce workshops of Quang Nam region, Spiritual Temple, and the sacred Ca Ong Temple, where you can see fishing boats laden with shrimp and immerse yourself in the vibrant dawn.

YIN THE NIGHT, YANG THE DAY

Yin and Yang tiles, or Luu Ly tiles, are used in most architectural works at Nam O Heritage as a distinctive feature of the local culture. Not only serving a functional purpose, the Yin and Yang tiles also reflect beliefs about spirituality, feng shui, ingrained in East Asian cultural life, and encapsulate the Dai Viet history.

THE COLORS OF FAIFO

The yellow walls, pink & white paper flower, and the sparkling lights of lantern nights of Hoi An ancient town have become a wellspring of inspiration for the architecture of Nam O Heritage. The harmonious blend of these things evokes a prosperous land with centuries of history, yet idyllic, romantic and peaceful.

THE FISHING VILLAGE VIBES

Images of everyday fishing tools like nets, bamboo boats, and fishing tackle are harnessed to inspire the interior and exterior design at Nam O Heritage, sending a message about the coexistence of a fishing village embracing the resort.

THE IMPRESSION OF A GOLDEN DYNASTY

Designed with inspiration from a heritage journey in Central Vietnam, Nam O Heritage also features architectural impressions of Hue Royal Court, such as ceremonial grounds, stone columns, and arched gateways….

THE VITALITY FROM WATERFLOW

With the advantage of numerous internal lakes, the amenities at Nam O Heritage are harmoniously arranged to showcase a standout design feature - prominent “lake within a lake" designs, with floating architectural works becoming signature of the resort.
